Post Hurricane Sandy causing some sites not to load
We just wanted to let you all know that some of our clients are experiencing issues with their sites loading very slow or getting a page saying "Bad Request". Our servers are humming along beautifully and we have tested throughout our entire network and have deduced that Hurricane Sandy appears to be causing the issues people are reporting. We wanted to let you know that we are keeping a close eye on this. We will let you know more as we no more. Our best guess though is until most of the east coast data centers get all back online there will be intermittent issues.

We are still noticing a few private domains having intermittent issues. Again our servers are running great. It appears some national DNS servers being down is still the main issue.

Post Re: Hurricane Sandy causing some sites not to load
Well here is the latest breaking news: We seem to have isolated the issue and it appears that the storm was a Red Herring. The problem seems to be stemming from the load balancer in front of the server network. This would account for why such a small percentage of clients have been experiencing the issue. We have the team on it right now looking to rectify the issue. Again only a small percentage of people would have experienced the problem but we still take it very seriously and are looking for an immediate solution. We will let you know when it is all worked out.

Thank you again for your patience.

Well it appears we have the issue all cleared up. Below is a more detailed solution to the problem:

The Data Center we work with mis-configured the load balancer that is responsible for distributing traffic across our front-end web servers. 2 out of the 7 IP addresses were incorrect in this configuration. We did not request that any changes be made to this pool of IP addresses, yet we take full responsibility for not catching this issue sooner.

If you were unlucky enough to land on one of the two bad IP addresses, then all subsequent requests would remain locked to that IP for up to 24 hours. If your reading this and your still having trouble reaching your site, then please clear your web-browsers cookies and cache, then close and re-open your web-browser. This step should only be necessary if you have attempted to reach your site within the last 24 hours and received an error that would not go away. We apologize for the inconvenience. We have taken steps to insure that this issue will not occur again in the future. Please feel free to contact the support desk should you have any further questions or concerns.
